  • Jan 19th The much loved Virginia City, NV prostitute, Julia Bulette is murdered. The town closes down to pay respects at her funeral. Thousands attend the procession.
  • Jan 29th President Johnson vetoes Colorado's second attempt to become a U.S. state
  • Mar 1st Nebraska is admitted as the 37th U.S. state
  • Mar 2nd The First Reconstruction Act is passed by Congress over Johnson's veto
